The 1976 city architectural survey rated buildings 0 to 5, 5 highest, and was never adopted as a register of historic resources. The 2017 Eureka Valley context statement lists the house among the five designated San Francisco Landmarks in its study area and names it as the one surviving building there associated with the district's early civic and institutional development. The statement dates the house to 1891 in one passage and says it was constructed in 1892 in another."
