1906
The H.S. Crocker Building, an example of the South End's post-earthquake warehouse and industrial reconstruction.
-
1906
Built at an estimated cost of $80,000 on thick brick footings, replacing a wine warehouse burned in the fire that followed the earthquake. A sawtooth roof of tin and skylights covered the back half; the front windows had tin-covered fire shutters, the chimneys were lined with terra cotta, fireproof vaults for valuables stood in the middle of the building, and sprinklers ran throughout.
-
1907
Built.
-
March 1964
Fire damaged the building in 1963 or early 1964; a permit of March 1964 covers cutting out and rebuilding the burnt parts.
-
1965
Permits through 1964 and early 1965 turned the building from a plain warehouse into a warehouse and Italian salame works: new rooms, a concrete slab poured at the back, a recessed truck dock and a freight elevator.
-
January 1966
James A. Martin photographed the property.
-
1978
The second-floor roof was raised to give the Gallo works more clearance, and two openings were cut through the ground floor into 200 Brannan Street next door, one for a conveyor and one for a stair.
