The Civil Works Administration cleared the burnt-out 1890s pavilion here in 1934 and the Works Progress Administration took the project over in 1935, building a $125,000 fieldhouse to William G. Merchant's design, regrading the baseball diamonds, building a concrete retaining wall and access stair along Bosworth Street, and adding tennis courts and perimeter fencing. The work was finished in May 1938, and the fieldhouse was rehabilitated in 2017-18.
