   The Haight-Ashbury Free Clinic opened here in 1967, offering substance-abuse and medical services on a model of non-judgemental volunteer care that was adopted nationally.

4. June 7, 1967

   The Haight Ashbury Free Clinic opened in a second-floor suite here on 7 June 1967, after many prospective landlords had turned it down. Around 12,000 patients used it in the first month, for infections, pneumonia and venereal disease as well as drugs. Happening House shared the space at the outset.
