1080 Haight Street

1. April 20, 1895

   The contract was signed for a large Queen Anne house on three lots at the corner of Baker Street, designed by F. P. Rabin and built by William Tegeler at a declared cost of $6,815; water was connected to the site that April and building probably began in June. Freestanding and ornamented on all four sides, it stands on 13-inch concrete foundation walls and is carved almost entirely in redwood, with eight stained-glass windows, an octagonal corner tower, and quarter-sawn oak, Lincrusta and parquet inside.

4. 1985

   Converted to a bed and breakfast under a zoning variance: the bedroom closets became private baths, the basement an apartment, and in the early 1990s the attic a flat with two dormers and skylights added on the east roof. The interior was restored over some fifteen years of that use.
