Angelo J. Rossi Playground was built by the Works Progress Administration on six acres of the former Odd Fellows Cemetery, after a Public Works Administration housing project for the same ground had been defeated in 1934. The $80,000 scheme, begun in 1936, took in a concrete perimeter retaining wall, baseball and softball diamonds, tennis, basketball and volleyball courts and an oval running track; a second phase community centre by William G. Merchant was never built. A swimming pool was added at the northwest corner in the 1950s.
