    Built 1899. Architect: Charles R. Wilson. Contractor: C. F. Sheibley. San Francisco Landmark No. 29 (designated 1970). SFFD Engine Co. No. 22 firehouse; company moved to 1290 Sixteenth Avenue in 1962; one of ~7 surviving 19th-c. SF firehouses; one of three Inner Sunset City Landmarks along with the Sunset Branch Library (1305 Eighteenth Avenue) and 320 Judah Street.

    On the morning of the earthquake Engine 22 helped Engine 30 evacuate the patients of the Park Emergency Hospital, then patrolled as far east as Hyde Street and north to Sacramento Street for 45 hours.

    Declared surplus and sold at auction by the city to the Community Effort for Disturbed Children, to be converted into the San Francisco Children's Center.

  6. November 13, 1969

    Built in 1898 as the first fire house in the Sunset District, the two-storey wood-frame building with a hose tower housed Engine 22 for 64 years; the company helped check the 1906 fire and the house served as a food distribution center after the earthquake. The City Planning Commission voted 6-0 to approve designating the Old Fire House, former quarters of Engine 22, a city landmark.
