1. c. 1906–1907

   The house is made of four of the earthquake refugee cottages built by the army and the city's engineers after 1906 — three joined to make the main house and a fourth standing free at the rear. Of the 5,610 such cottages, leased to the homeless on parks and squares and meant from the start to be moved onto private lots, only 500 were the larger Type A; by the summer of 1908 the camps were cleared. It is one of the earliest buildings in the neighbourhood; a porch and bay window were added later.
