George R. Moscone Recreation Center

1. 1900

   Built.

2. 1924

   A recreation centre opened here in 1924 on the ground of Lobos Square — the 1906 refugee camp that had become a city park — first as the Funston Recreation Center, later Funston Playground, and today the George R. Moscone Recreation Center. It is a contributing building to the California Register-eligible discontiguous Midcentury Recreation Historic District.

3. 1935–1941

   The Works Progress Administration built a playground and tennis courts within the existing Funston Playground, now the Moscone Recreation Center.

4. 1953

   The Marina Branch Library was built to designs by Appleton & Wolfard.
