   Severely damaged in the 1906 earthquake, which knocked down one wall; it was repaired.

4. 1952

   Saved from demolition by the National Society of Colonial Dames. It had passed to the Pacific Gas and Electric Company and stood empty; the Dames bought it, moved it across Gough Street from its original site at 2618 onto a lot given by the Misses Allyne, and restored it under the architect Warren Perry for their headquarters and a museum of mostly 18th-century furnishings.

5. November 14, 1968

   The Octagon House, built in 1861 and one of the city's two remaining octagonal houses, was a two-story house with concrete walls covered in clapboards and an eight-sided cupola; restored by the Colonial Dames, it served as a museum of eighteenth-century antiques and was listed in the Historic American Buildings Survey. The City Planning Commission approved designating the Octagon House a city landmark under Article 10 of the Planning Code and sent the designation to the Board of Supervisors.
