John McMullen House

   Built as a Stick style house on a lot 25 feet by 100.

   An addition by the firm Newsom & Newsom, known for Northern California Queen Anne houses.

   Built.

4. 1904

   A butler's pantry was built, the last of a run of enlargements that had also widened and extended the kitchen after 1892 and added a two-storey-and-attic section with a dining room at the rear in the late 1890s.

5. June 3, 1976

   The 28-room building, formerly a boarding house, was a residential care home for 25 developmentally disabled adults; the City Planning Commission unanimously let it house 28 (Resolution 7507).

6. 1978

   Chateau Agape, a board-and-care home for people with mental illness, opened in this building in 1978. It is a designated city landmark and listed on the National Register.

6 expired or cancelled permits are omitted. This address is dated 1881 in its National Register nomination; the assessor's roll gives 1900 for the building on this parcel. Two of the city's context statements date the Newsom additions to 1906 and give the house's address as 327 Guerrero Street; the National Register nomination dates the remodel to 1890, and it and the city's landmark list place Landmark No. 123 here at 827 Guerrero. A residential care home for developmentally disabled adults was already operating here in June 1976; the board-and-care home's opening is dated 1978.
