Begun in November 1882 to the design of the architect Henry Geilfuss, for his own family: a detached, bay-windowed Italianate house of two storeys on a sixty-foot lot more than twice the usual width, with a stable behind reached by a side drive — a freestanding house in a district of row houses.

The house was first numbered 809 Treat Avenue and became 811 around 1894.

1900
By 1900 the barn and stable at the rear had been rebuilt as one two-storey stable pushed forward into the raised room, with a separate apartment of its own, and the other outbuildings were cleared.

1904
From 1904 until at least 1937 a curtain laundry worked from the converted stable at the back of the lot.

1950
By 1950 the former stable, extended to the south, was a sheet-metal works, and a one-storey garage had been built at the front corner of the lot; by the 1990s the rear buildings were a cabinet shop.

1972
A permit was issued to legalize the five apartments the house had been divided into; a second followed in 1975.
