1. 1982

   The Valencia Rose Cafe opened in a former mortuary here in January 1982 and is reckoned the country's first gay comedy club; by 1984 it drew some 300 customers on a weekend night. It closed in 1985 and Intersection for the Arts took the building that year. Identified as potentially eligible for landmark designation.
