20–30 Alta Street

1. 1935

   A five-storey, five-unit Moderne apartment building went up here — the first building ever put on the north side of Alta Street at its eastern end, and with 60 Alta Street of the same year the start of the apartment development that transformed the street.

The Modern Architecture and Landscape Design context statement documents a 1937 building by Angus McSweeney at this address; the city's own 1998 environmental impact report for the site records that building as put up in 1935, remodelled in 1937 and demolished by the City in 1992, and the 2025 assessor's roll still classes the parcel a vacant residential lot.
