2006 Bush Street

1. 1852–1854

   The Stanyan House: a prefabricated wooden building shipped by sea from Boston and erected here between 1852 and 1854, from the earliest period of building in the Western Addition and among the oldest houses in San Francisco.

2. 1885

   Apartments were added on each side of the house in 1885 for the extended family of Supervisor Charles Stanyan, for whom Stanyan Street is named.

3. 1892

   The double houses on either side were built in 1892 on what had been the house's garden.

   Built.

5. October 3, 1974

   The house was a prefabricated New England-style dwelling shipped around the Horn from Boston: two storeys, horizontal wood siding, fourteen rooms, with a recessed arched porch under the overhanging upper floor; zoned R-2. The City Planning Commission unanimously designated the Stanyan House a city landmark.

The city's Japantown context statement dates the Stanyan House to between 1852 and 1854; the assessor's roll and Planning's historic resource survey both record 1900. The buildings on either side of the house are dated 1892 in its landmark designation and 1885 in the city's Japantown context statement.
