   The corner lot held a two-storey reinforced concrete building with a basement, housing a plumbing and heating contractor's office, showroom and shops, with a landscaped open parking lot on the Washington Street frontage. The City Planning Commission approved with conditions converting the building into an animal hospital and shelter for Pets Unlimited.

3. May 7, 1974

   A building permit was issued to convert the building into Pets Unlimited's veterinary hospital; it was suspended later that month while its soundproofing was reviewed.

4. April 24, 1975

   The City Planning Commission unanimously directed the Zoning Administrator to withhold the certificate of occupancy for Pets Unlimited's converted veterinary hospital until tests showed its soundproofing met the 1972 conditions, with the results shared with the neighbors.

5. June 19, 1975

   After a Public Health Department test found no sound escaping the converted building, the City Planning Commission voted 4-3 to have the Zoning Administrator approve the certificate of occupancy for Pets Unlimited's veterinary hospital, rejecting neighbors' call for night-time tests.

6. November 9, 1976

   The City Planning Commission ended the authorisation for the Pets Unlimited animal shelter on the building's second floor and ordered the dogs removed, leaving the ground-floor animal clinic in operation (Resolution 7605).

7. January 27, 1977

   By 27 January 1977, the Board of Supervisors had upheld the City Planning Commission's withdrawal of the conditional use authorisation for a kennel at the Pets Unlimited facility, and the department was seeking abatement of the use.

   Pets Unlimited ran a dog shelter on the second floor of its building; it had sued in Superior Court to stop the City Planning Commission's ending of the shelter's conditional use authorisation.
