2727 Pierce Street

1. 1865

   Henry Casebolt, a blacksmith who became a carriage and street car manufacturer and later controlled the Sutter Street Railroad, built this house and owned the whole block bounded by Pierce, Vallejo, Scott and Green Streets.

   House nearly completed

   The Daily Alta California reported Henry Casebolt's house on Pierce Street nearly completed.

3. 1874

   A house here served as the St. Alexander Nevsky Orthodox chapel from 1874 to 1881, between Vallejo Street and what later became Green Street.

4. October 1964

   The Junior League of San Francisco's Historic Sites Committee photographed the property.

5. November 9, 1972

   The Victorian Casebolt House stood in the centre of a large R-1-zoned lot. The City Planning Commission unanimously approved designating the Casebolt House as a city landmark, on the Landmarks Preservation Advisory Board's recommendation.

Three $1 street-space permits, a $1 filing made to obtain final inspection on the 2009 retaining-wall work, and a 1996 renewal of the 1995 tiling permit are omitted. 1 expired permit is not shown. The assessor's roll and SF Planning both record a year built of 1865; the Daily Alta California reported the house nearly completed in March 1868.
