Henry Casebolt, a blacksmith who became a carriage and street car manufacturer and later controlled the Sutter Street Railroad, built this house and owned the whole block bounded by Pierce, Vallejo, Scott and Green Streets.

Not yet documented: the architect and builder; when the parcel was reduced to its present lot from the block Casebolt owned; and which build date is right — the assessor's roll and SF Planning both give 1865, while the Daily Alta California reported the house nearly completed in March 1868.
