Built for the Thiebaut Brothers Paper Box Company, one of the oldest paper box manufacturers in San Francisco, to a design by master architect William Koenig. During the 1920s the Republic Truck showroom operated in the same building.

A photograph of this year, which raised the building's status code, shows the unusual horizontally divided wood-sash windows to be original and most of the original articulation intact. The Downtown Inventory evaluation had recorded the windows as alterations and the DPR 523 A form prepared for the South of Market survey had found the building did not retain integrity.
