Pinehurst Lodge went up for the San Francisco Junior League, to house children who were waiting on foster placements. Ashley, Evers and Hayes designed it; J. S. Sampson Company were the general contractors. Two storeys of brick under a hipped tile roof, Mediterranean in manner, three wings enclosing a courtyard on a large landscaped lot among modest row houses. Animal, ship and castle tiles line the recreation room; the visitors' room fireplace carries an Old King Cole frieze; the salon ceiling is inscribed in Latin from 1 Corinthians 13. It took a city-clubhouses award at the 1929 Northern California Architectural Exhibition at the de Young. The Salvation Army has held it since 1946.
