    Built as a Pelton cottage — the type named for the San Francisco architect who published free plans for cheap dwellings in the San Francisco Bulletin between 1881 and 1883, and built here in numbers by speculators on the west side of Third Street. It is a well-preserved example; the only significant alterations are a partially below-grade garage and aluminium sliders in place of the wood double-hung windows.

The assessor dates the building 1900; the 2010 survey dates it about 1885. Most pre-1906 buildings in the district carry a default assessor date of 1900, because the city's building records were destroyed in the 1906 earthquake and fire.
