   The Bayview Neighborhood Community Center was founded here. It began as the Crispus Attucks Club, named for the Revolutionary War patriot, and became an important cultural centre for the district's African American community, giving space to public meetings, job training and counselling, games and activities for young people, and arts and crafts programmes. It moved to the South San Francisco Opera House around 1966.

3. 1954

   The Crispus Attucks Club, a community centre founded in 1954 by a group of mostly African American women and named for the Black patriot killed in the Boston Massacre, operated in a house here. The women who met here from 1956 — the “Big Five” — became the core of the Bayview Neighborhood Center. Identified in 2024 as eligible for local landmark, California Register or National Register designation.
