Built in 1911 as a “taxpayer block” — a low placeholder held until land values justified a larger mixed-use building — and one of only a handful of single-use commercial buildings put up in Duboce Triangle between 1906 and 1919. Christopher VerPlanck's context statement of 2022 surveyed 552 properties in Duboce Triangle for the Duboce Triangle Neighborhood Association.
