1878
The German General Benevolent Society opened the German Hospital on this block, a 200-bed wood-frame building in the German Rundbogenstil on a campus of grass, palms and shrubs. A women's wing followed in 1888.

The site had been in health-care use for 110 years by 1991, placing the first hospital use here in about 1881.

The original hospital was replaced by a five-storey brick complex facing 14th Street, renamed Franklin Hospital during World War I.

Work began on the medical centre buildings then standing, and every building, fence and roadway of the earlier hospital was razed for them.

The board launched a $12 million campaign to rebuild the aging campus with two towers and an office building at the northwest corner of the site.

The three new buildings were completed and the old Franklin Hospital demolished; the hospital was renamed Franklin Medical Center.

Renamed Davies Medical Center, for the longtime board member Ralph K. Davies.
