The San Francisco Fire Department built a firehouse on this site — then numbered 449 Douglass Street — to serve Eureka Valley, Duboce Triangle and Noe Valley. Engine Co. No. 24 moved to Hoffman Street in 1914. The department chose a site atop the hills splitting Noe and Eureka valleys so as to reach both; the station building was demolished about 1948 for the dwelling on the site now.
