Office building
-
1850s–c. 1900
The Old Ghirardelli Building at 415–431 Jackson, said to date from 1853, held Domingo Ghirardelli & Co.'s chocolate factory, shop and offices — at times with family living here — until the factory moved around 1900; in the late 1860s it also housed the Buena Vista Vinicultural Society, whose officers included William C. Ralston, and the Italian weekly L'Eco della Patria.

The Hotaling Annex-East at 443–445 Jackson was built around 1860 and long used as the Tremont Stables, then for many years as a warehouse for Anson P. Hotaling's wholesale liquor business; its Italianate front matches the Hotaling Building next door.
-
1861
The Medico-Dental Building at 435–441 Jackson (formerly 419–423) was apparently built in 1861; its first known tenant was H. Daneri & Co., wine and liquor importers, until 1867, followed by the leaf-tobacco importers Cyrus Adams & Co. from 1868 to 1879. Despite the four caducei on its lintel, no medical use of it is known.
-
1873
The Ghirardelli Annex at 407 Jackson (formerly 411–413) first took water in 1873, when the carriage painters James W. Wheeler & Co. were its tenants; its age is uncertain, one history giving 1861. Around 1880 Ghirardelli bought it for chocolate and spice manufacturing, which stayed until the move to North Point Street in about 1894.
-
1895–1952
The Ghirardelli Annex later made paper tubes, served as a tobacco warehouse, housed the Petri Italian American Cigar Company around 1920 and was a paper warehouse in the 1940s, before its conversion for wholesale furnishings in the 1951–52 revival of Jackson Street.
-
1899–1950s
The Medico-Dental Building held coffee mills by 1899, a wholesale paint and varnish business from about 1905, the Chinese merchants Sing Chong in 1925, the California Envelope Company's paper warehouse from the 1930s, and decorators' shops from the 1950s.
-
1920s–1950s
After the Ghirardelli years the Old Ghirardelli Building was a woodworking mill, a cigar factory by the 1920s and a print shop by the 1940s, before becoming furniture showrooms in the early 1950s.
