The Potrero Police Station was built on this corner, on ground that had been an ungraded 60-foot outcropping of serpentine. It went up alongside the North Beach and Richmond stations in anticipation of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, to cope with the increasingly transient population of shipyard laborers.

The Potrero Emergency Hospital, similarly detailed and by the same City Architect, was built on the southern portion of the same lot to treat injured shipyard workers, who otherwise had little recourse beyond the company dispensary. The survey addresses it 2310 Third Street, a number the city's register does not carry.
