Mount Zion Hospital put up its building at the corner of Post and Scott Streets, from which by 1977 the State had ordered all direct patient services removed.

The T-shaped neoclassical building on the north-west corner of Post and Scott Streets, on the Mount Zion hospital campus, opened as a hospital, designed by J. E. Kraftt & Sons Architects and clad in light brick, with arched recessed portals flanked by stucco pilasters. A morgue was added shortly after it opened.

The City Planning Commission approved a seventh floor of two 63-bed nursing units on Mount Zion Hospital's six-storey building at Divisadero and Post, and a one-storey-over-basement services and entrance building in its courtyard, 5 to 1 (Resolution 7789), and the addition's excess bulk 4 to 2 (Resolution 7790).
