    Annex / Nurses' Quarters

The four-storey annex housing the hospital's nurses was built first, before the hospital itself — rusticated brick over a high concrete foundation on the lower two storeys, smooth brick with corner quoins above, under a moulded sheet-metal dentil cornice. A drug room stood at its east end and a laundry in the basement.

Built by Healy and Tibbitts Construction Company.

  3. 1908

    Powerhouse

The powerhouse was built at the high northwest corner of the block, one tall storey over a basement in rusticated painted brick under a sheet-metal cornice and stucco parapet, with a stuccoed stack rising about thirty feet and a steel extension above it. It held two 75-kilowatt generators and two boilers, and basement tunnels ran from it to a coal and oil vault under the Lyon Street pavement and across to the annex.

    Huntington Social Hall

Huntington Social Hall was built for the patients' recreation, two storeys measuring 35 by 65 feet, with a central portico on paired Tuscan columns and its name cut in Roman letters along the cornice. It was the joint gift of Collis P. Huntington's widow and his nephew H. E. Huntington, as a memorial to him. Two tiled social rooms flanked the ground-floor hall, with eight bedrooms above.

  6. 1923

A small single-storey storage and paint shop was put up just west of the annex, a frame building faced in brick veneer with its rusticated courses lined up with the annex's.

National Register of Historic Places nomination, National Park Service
  7. 1946

The balustrade above the annex cornice came down and a new coping was built in its place.

National Register of Historic Places nomination, National Park Service
  8. 1955

Huntington Social Hall was partitioned into administrative offices on both floors; some of those partitions came out again under a 1966 permit, by which time it was called the Huntington Office Annex.

National Register of Historic Places nomination, National Park Service
  9. 1968

The annex was gutted and rebuilt to hold 45 patient rooms under the architect Elmer Botsai, the first stage of a seven-year rebuilding programme. The central stair came out for a lift, the ornamental wrought iron fire escapes at each end were replaced with large exterior stairs, and the windows beside them were bricked up.
