1. 1857

   The cornerstone of the present church was laid; it was finished in 1859–60 and dedicated by Archbishop Alemany in 1860, with services in English, Spanish and French.

2. 1860

   The church of St Francis of Assisi, founded in 1849 as the city's first Roman Catholic parish after Mission Dolores, was dedicated in this building in 1860; it holds the first parochial school in San Francisco and the first ordination of priests.
