Works Progress Administration crews deposited 20,000 cubic yards of fill here and built the stone seawall, the bathhouse, the beach, two boathouses and retaining walls, paving 101,000 square feet of concrete promenade.

The Aquatic Park Bathhouse holds one of the city's densest concentrations of Federal Art Project work: Hilaire Hiler's Prismatarium and his Lost Continents of Atlantis and Mu, Sargent Johnson's incised slate marquee, ceramic lintel and tile sea forms, Richard Ayer's Nautical Abstractions and Tugboats, Charles Nunemaker's Sepia Seascape and Beniamino Bufano's granite Frog and Seal of 1942.
