  1. 1884

Two one-story houses went up on this lot between 1884 and 1886 — a flat-front Italianate at the rear and a simple front-gabled house before it, a second unit on one lot being a common answer to rising land values. The rear house still stands, much altered and enlarged under a coat of shingles.

  2. 1910

The botanist Alice Eastwood, curator of botany at the California Academy of Sciences from 1894 to 1949, rented the front cottage on this lot from 1910 until her death in 1953. The cottage was demolished soon afterwards.

  3. 1954

A very small wood-framed International-style house by the architects Campbell and Wong replaced the Victorian cottage at the front of the lot — modern in idiom but no bigger than the older houses around it.
