Municipal Building

1. October 29, 1910

   The A. C. Whitcomb estate was to build a six-storey reinforced-concrete building here for the city's occupancy as the new city hall, 200 feet on Market and 165 deep, with one-storey buildings behind for the emergency hospital and a garage and stable.

2. December 17, 1910

   The new temporary city hall was to be started soon: reinforced concrete, 200 feet on Market by 163 deep and 102 feet high, seven storeys and basement, about $600,000, planned for later use as a first-class hotel, with the central emergency hospital and stables in the rear. Excavation of about 200 by 134 feet was nearly done. Wright, Rushforth & Cahill were the architects.

   It served first as a temporary city hall, and has been a hotel since 1916.

5. 1960

   The Hotel Whitcomb, where the Daughters of Bilitis held their first biennial convention from 27 to 30 May 1960 - the first large-scale public gathering of lesbians in the country, drawing over 200 registrants.
