   The two-storey and basement concrete building here, let on a long lease to Berger's store and adjoining the Flood Building, sold for $300,000, about $10,000 a front foot; the lot was part of E. J. Baldwin's old Baldwin annex property.

3. 1943

   The Albert S. Samuels Jewelry Co. moved here from the Lincoln Building at 895 Market and brought its street clock, which Samuels had designed and built with the Seattle engineer Joseph Mayer and started when the 1915 exposition opened; it is the city's best-known street clock.

   The Samuels clock was taken down and stored from August 1967 to October 1970 during BART construction, at the jewelry company's expense.
