Albert Pissis's Emporium department store opened on this site in 1896, burned in 1906, and was rebuilt by 1908. Forest City and Westfield's $440 million redevelopment kept the front facade and the domed glass roof, restoring the dome as the centre of the new complex, and reopened on 28 September 2006. The shopping centre closed on 24 January 2026.
