Building permit issued for the new Columbia Theater, built for the managers Gottlob and Marx to replace their Powell Street Columbia lost in the 1906 fire.

Opened as the Columbia Theater with William Crane in "Father and the Boys"; by 1917 it was the only San Francisco theater still offering legitimate drama.

After spells under other managements as the Wilkes and the Lurie, it reopened as the Geary with Pauline Frederick in "The Scarlet Woman".

The Hot Jazz Society staged special jazz performances at the Geary Theater in the late 1930s and 1940s.

Became the home stage of the American Conservatory Theater.

The Geary Theater carried the highest grades given by both the 1976 city architectural inventory and the Heritage downtown survey.

With its owner, the American Conservatory Theater, in favour and no one opposed, the City Planning Commission unanimously approved designating the Geary Theater a city landmark (Resolution 7441).

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in February 1979, and designated City Landmark No. 82.

Known as the Geary Theatre; it was among the rated buildings of the city's Downtown Plan inventory.
