Built in 1935 as the West Portal branch of the San Francisco Bank, to designs by the architect W. D. Peugh: a rounded exterior clad in travertine marble with cast bronze grillwork, in the stripped Moderne manner that banks adopted after the crash of 1929. Architect & Engineer published it in October 1935.
