    The cornerstone was laid for the fourth church of the oldest Episcopal congregation in California, founded in 1849 by the Rev. Flavel Scott Mines, who is buried in it. A. Page Brown modelled it on Durham Cathedral, in rough-hewn Colusa sandstone; it holds a bronze angel and a window by Louis Tiffany.

    The City Planning Commission unanimously approved the proposal to designate the Trinity Episcopal Church building a landmark, as the Landmarks Preservation Advisory Board had recommended.

    Trinity Episcopal Church, which opened its kitchen in 1985 to Project Open Hand; within two years 450 volunteers were delivering two hot meals a day to hundreds of clients. A designated San Francisco landmark (No. 65).
