Japantown is cut out of these blocks around Post and Buchanan Streets. Pacific Heights rises north beyond Geary Boulevard, Lone Mountain / USF lies west past Masonic Avenue, Hayes Valley south, and the Tenderloin and Nob Hill east across Van Ness Avenue.
