After the Rothschilds the house was long a rooming house and then apartments, until its restoration as a single house from 1974.
-
October 3, 1974
The house was a restrained Italianate wood-frame dwelling of two living floors over a ground-level basement, with slanted bays, a portico on Corinthian columns and a bracketed cornice, in an R-4 district with a 130-E height limit inside Redevelopment Area A-2. By October 1974 the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency had designated the house, as part of a longer row, for rehabilitation in place for exceptional historical and architectural merit. The City Planning Commission unanimously refused to designate the Rothschild House a city landmark at that time, leaving it open to reconsideration after restoration.
