   Built as the Bechtel Building, the first office tower of the central business district to cross south of Market Street.

3. 1970-1975

   The 23-story Bechtel Building, a steel-frame tower with a flush aluminum wall in medium bronze on the block's eastern corner, served as Bechtel Corporation's principal office.

4. February 5, 1976

   The block held the existing 298-foot office building at 50 Beale Street, with a 45-storey office tower under construction beside it at 45 Fremont Street.

   Four underground storage tanks were removed or abandoned in place between 1987 and 1999; a 15,000-gallon double-contained tank serving the emergency generator remained in use as of 2002.
