In its natural state the ground lay under the shallow water of Yerba Buena Cove; by 1913 a single narrow rectangular building housing a paper manufacturer stood on the lot.

A reinforced concrete and glass light-industrial building put up in 1926 to house the Traung Lithography and Label Company, designed by Maurice Couchot and Jesse Rosenwald, with Gothic Revival detail at the Battery Street entrances and industrial sash windows.
