Put forward for further evaluation as a potential city landmark: St. Matthew's Church appears eligible for local designation under Criterion 3 (Architecture) as a rare remaining example of Gothic Revival institutional architecture in San Francisco. Built by the German Evangelical Church in 1907 after the earthquake and fire, wood-framed and clad in wood shingles; its character-defining features are the siting of the building and its relationship to the street, the wood cladding, the roof configuration, the windows and doors with their transoms, surrounds and glazing, and the rose window, parapets, spires and fenestration pattern. A figure caption in the same document gives St. Matthew's Lutheran Church as 3321 16th Street, a separate parcel on the Mission Dolores block.
