Saint Francis Hotel

   Built.

2. 1906

   The St. Francis Hotel, designed by the firm Bliss & Faville. A first hotel of the same name stood here from 1904 until the 1906 earthquake destroyed it; this is the second.

   Vermont Marble Company contracted for marble work on the St. Francis Hotel for the Crocker Hotel Company.

4. November 29, 1913

   The Crocker Hotel Company let a contract to bore and build a well 1,000 feet deep for the hotel, for $3,000. Site as recorded: The St. Francis hotel, on the lot bounded by Post, Powell and Geary streets.

   The St. Francis Hotel, whose Orchid Room and Oak Room were among the bars sustaining Union Square's long use as a gathering area.
