100 Townsend Street

1. 1909

   The San Francisco Fire Department began construction of Pump Station No. 1, part of the Auxiliary Water Supply System built after 1906. A 1913 Sanborn map records two multi-stage turbine pumps, each able to deliver 2,700 gallons of fresh or salt water a minute. Designed by consulting engineer Tom W. Ransom; listed on the National Register.
