201 Spear Street

1. 1905

   The 1905 Sanborn insurance maps show the White Bros. Hardwood Lumber House holding the southeast corner of Spear and Howard, with several wood-frame warehouses on the ground behind it. The 1911 maps show those warehouses standing empty. The rest of the block held the Hadwen Swain manufacturing company, the W. G. Strafford coal yard and Shipsmith Electric Power.

2. 1979

   A two-storey building of 4,830 square feet on the corner lot was pulled down. No building permits were ever recorded for it, a sign that it went up before the 1906 earthquake and fire. The two lots beside it had been paved parking since some time before 1966.
