911 Innes Avenue

1. 1871

   William Stone moved his boat yard from Potrero Point to 9th (Innes) Avenue near G (Griffith) Street, following Johnson J. Dircks to the shallow northern shoreline of the Hunters Point peninsula, where immigrant shipwrights built shallow-draft bay scows for over fifty years. The yards were family-run and often home-based, the builders' dwellings standing among the boat lofts and storage sheds, and the craft passed from father to son for three generations.

2. 1873

   The Stone House was built — one of three structures surviving from the earliest era of wooden boat building at India Basin.

3. 1890

   Built by William I. Stone.

4. 1939

   The house received a new concrete retaining wall and foundation.
