    The Steil Building stood here until the site was cleared for the 101 Montgomery Street tower. It was one of six buildings on the block's Montgomery Street frontage, all built between 1907 and 1921, and one of the two the Heritage survey rated "B". By the end of 1981 the tower was under construction on the lots.
